Boilers need an annual service to keep them running properly, identify any potential issues before they become serious and to help it strike the right balance between warmth and energy efficiency. For the majority of people this boiler service will take place every year within the same month that the boiler was originally installed, and because this is most likely to be winter (it’s more common for boilers to break down during periods of high use or having been off over the summer etc) that’s when your service will be due.
However, winter is often not the most convenient time for anyone: it’s the busiest period for plumbing & heating engineers (so booking one in can be more difficult); it’s less disruptive in the summer (especially if work needs doing on it); and often it’s an expense most householders can do without in the run up to or immediately after Christmas. Therefore, a summer boiler service would actually be preferable for most. But you’re stuck with it, right? Well actually no, not necessarily.
To comply with the terms of your warranty, you do need to have your boiler serviced within the same period, usually within around a month of the date of original installation, but all your manufacturer is looking for is that the boiler has been professionally serviced at least every 12 months. You can change this as long as you are willing to shorten the period between services as a one off.
For example, if it was due to be serviced in November you could choose to bring this forward to August, shortening the period by 3 months for that year only. From that point on you could get your service done in August every year.
Technically it would cost you a little more that year because you would be paying out again for a service after only 9 or 10 months, for example, instead of the full 12 months but what if we could offset that loss by offering you a discounted rate on that early service?
