We are pleased to announce that we have signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant and have received a Bronze Award under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge to “acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.” . Read more about the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Bronze Award requires employers to promote being armed forces friendly and open to employing reservists, armed forces veterans (including the wounded, injured and sick), cadet instructors and military spouses/partners. Our participation in the scheme has been championed here at Plumbcare.com by gas tech engineer Steve Wilkinson who served with the RAF for 10 years and was medically discharged in 2015. Steve spoke of why he believes it’s important to be part of such a scheme:
“Having served in the armed forces I know what a valuable contribution veterans can make to employers, both in terms of their work ethic and the standard to which they are trained. It’s also good to give back to people who have served their country, especially those who have been injured or wounded who may find that their options for employment are more limited.”
We currently employ 11 former service personnel, including several who were injured while serving their country. We’re also committed to making sure our recruitment processes offer fair opportunities for employing further ex-defence staff. As such, we hope to gain a Silver Award in the near future.
